Ogryn Skullbreaker Abilities & Passives
To be a good Ogryn you need to learn to time your ultimate Bull Rush at the right time, especially on higher difficulties. You are also kind of the "resbot" in the group because you can't get interrupted due to Loyal Protector passive.
- Bull Rush (Ultimate) - Ferociously Charge at enemies in front of you, knocking them down.
- Grenade Box (Ability) - Throwing the entire box of Grenades with great strength and enthusiasm, single target high damage attack.
- Intimidating Presence (Passive) - +10% Heavy Melee Attack Damage (Allies in Coherency).
- Thick Skin (Passive) - +20% Toughness Damage Reduction and +20% Health Damage Reduction.
- Excessive Force (Passive) - +25% Melee Stagger.
- Loyal Protector (Passive) - Being damaged while reviving or assisting allies no longer interrupts you.
As you can see the Ogryn in Darktide takes less damage thanks to Thick Skin passive compared to the other classes. The Ogryn is more robust, a up in your face playstyle character while also responsible for resurrection allies.
What Talents should you use as a Ogryn Skullbreaker?
Selecting the right Talents is key to success, especially on higher difficulties. Of course talents are different depending on your Build in Darktide. Lets take a look at the talents that we picked for this specific Ogryn Build:
- Lvl 5 - Smash 'Em Good!
- Lvl 10 - Heavyweight
- Lvl 15 - Towering Presence
- Lvl 20 - Hard As Nails
- Lvl 25 - Raging Bull
- Lvl 30 - Non-Stop Violence
Smash 'Em Good! - Level 5
Replenish 15% Toughness on single enemy melee hit. This is a great Talent to replenish Toughness whenever you need it. With this you can time yourself when to get a certain amount of Toughness back. Currently the Ogryn only has a 100 Shield Value, that means you will be getting 15 Shield back every time you do a heavy attack on a single enemy. It isn't much, but still better than nothing.
Heavyweight - Level 10
+50% Melee Damage and Damage Reduction against Bulwarks, Crushers, Plague Ogryns and Reapers. These are all the dangerous enemies and you take 50% less damage from them and deal a lot of extra damage.
Towering Presence - Level 15
+50% Coherency Radius. This increases your Coherency radius by 50%, giving your allies 10% extra damage on their melee heavy attacks.
Hard As Nails - Level 20
-25% Damage taken for each ally currently knocked down or incapacitated. This Talent is basically an "oh crap" button. When someone or some of your allies are down you take a lot less damage. The enemies will have a hard time completely killing you. This is especially great in combination with the Loyal Protector passive that is always active, with which you can't get interrupted while resurrecting or assisting.
When you try to resurrect a player always use Bull Rush to knock most enemies away and the enemies that still shoot at you won't do much damage due to the damage reduction that you have.
Raging Bull - Level 25
+10% Damage (next melee hit) on melee hit for each enemy hit with the initial attack. This perk is great for extra cleave damage when there are masses of hordes approaching.
Non-Stop Violence - Level 30
Replenish 10% Toughness per Bull Rush hit. This Talent is basically a must have on higher difficulties. The Bull Rush ultimate is your "oh crap" button. When you use it and charge ahead you gain 10% toughness per enemy hit. In most cases there are plenty of enemies which means your Toughness meter should be fully recharged.
How to play the Ogryn class in Darktide
The Ogryn Skullbreaker class in Darktide has a "up in your face" kind of playstyle. The Think Skin passive gives you 20% overall damage reduction and the Excessive Force passive makes it a lot easier to stagger enemies. By having Heavyweight talent active we can reduce damage by another 50% against Bulwarks, Crushers, Plague Ogryns and Reapers.
Another plus is the size of the Ogryn, because he is so much bigger than pretty much anything else it is a lot easier to headshot everything, the classic "boink" situation.
The Ogryn has the highest health of all classes (300) but a fairly small Toughness shield (100). That means especially ranged enemies are dangerous for the Ogryn in Darktide, Warhammer 40,000. Lasgun enemies can take out your shield without much trouble and you won't be able to recover it until you can attack anything in melee. Luckily there is always enough enemies around and you shouldn't have too much trouble recovering Toughness.
As a panic button you want to make sure to always have the Bull Rush ultimate ready to go. In case you drop low on health you can activate Bull Rush and thanks to the Non-Stop Violence talent you can recover all your Toughness if you hit enough enemies.
Weapons for the Ogryn Skullbreaker Build
The Ogryn Skullbreaker Build for Darktide can use various weapons. For this build we are using the Cleaver for our melee weapon and the Rippergun for our ranged weapon.
Ogryn Skullbreaker Melee Weapon
The Cleaver is a great melee weapon for the Ogryn in Darktide and fits this build perfectly. The weapon is great for horde clearing because it has good cleave damage and can also hit bigger targets easily.
Ogryn Skullbreaker Ranged Weapon
The Ogryn Build uses the Rippergun in Darktide. The weapon can kill a lot of targets with its heavy hitting shells and is also great against Elites. The weapon can not only kill Elites but also knock them down even on bigger distances. If Elites are knocked down they can't attack, by the time they manage to get on their feed they are most likely already dead.
This is the must have weapon for the Ogryn Skullbreaker class in Darktide, Warhammer 40,000.
