What We Know about the Zealot Preacher Class in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

What We Know about the Zealot Preacher Class in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

With the release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide now less than 2 months away, Fatshark have begun revealing some new information about the playable classes in the game, starting with the Zealot: Preacher.

We also learned a little bit about how classes will work in Darktide.

Archetypes and Classes in Darktide

It looks like Darktide will contain four different archetypes: Zealot, Psyker, Veteran and Ogryn. Each of these archetypes are then further broken down into classes, allowing players to further customize the abilities of their chosen archetype.

The Zealot Preacher is the first class revealed in detail by Fatshark, and represents the Preacher class, belonging to the Zealot archetype.

What is the Zealot Preacher in Darktide?

The Zealot archetype in general seems to be themed around getting right into the thick of the fight, smiting your heretical enemies with overwhelming force.

The Preacher class sounds quite similar to Victor Saltzpyre's Zealot class in Vermintide 2, in terms of how it plays and functions.

Preachers will have a special ability that lets them quickly charge forwards into melee range, as well as  passive abilities that cause you to deal more damage to your enemies when your health is low, resist lethal damage and gain increased attack speed. Again, all of this is very similar to the Vermintide 2 Zealot, so people who played that class will probably be able to easily jump into the Darktide Preacher and feel immediately familiar with the tools at their disposal.

While it's cool if we have some throwbacks to Vermintide 2 (and I personally love the Zealot in that game), I do hope that not all of the classes are so similar to things we've seen before - venturing into 40K for the first time is a good opportunity for Fatshark to shake things up with completely new playstyles. The Ogryn and Psyker archetypes seem like they present the best opportunities for new gameplay and combat concepts, but we'll have to await more news about those archetypes and their associated classes.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is being developed by Fatshark, and will release on November 30th.
