GoldenEye 007 is a classic retro game, originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997 by Rare. It was a game that started out with fairly low expectations, but went on to receive critical acclaim and be a commercial success. It is also remembered as a highly influential game that proved first person shooters could work well on consoles, and helped pave the way for future successful console releases in the same genre.

Owners of an Xbox One or Nintendo Switch will soon be able to enjoy this game, whether it's for the first time or as a nostalgic trip into the past for people who played it when it came out, some 25 years ago.

What we know about the GoldenEye ports

There is no complete feature list yet for the ports, and we haven't seen any gameplay footage. However, we do know some details about them, and the Xbox One and Switch versions will differ a little bit.

The Xbox One version will be available on Xbox Game Pass and will feature more stable framerates, support for 16:9 aspect ratio in up to 4K resolution, and split-screen multiplayer, however it will not feature online play. Players who already own the Rare Replay collection will get access to GoldenEye 007 free of charge.

The Switch version on the other hand will feature online multiplayer, but will not have the visual improvements mentioned above.
