The New Game that Simulates the Terraforming of Mars

The New Game that Simulates the Terraforming of Mars

Steam is home to many different early access games, often developed by small studios and indie developers who prefer this business model as a way to earn some revenue while receiving ongoing player feedback about their game as it is developed and updated.

One such game is Terraformers, which has been available as an early access title on Steam since April.

Terraformers allows players to explore the Red Planet for deposits of useful minerals that can later be used for manufacturing. You can then begin building cities on the planet, while taking steps to make the climate more suitable for human settlement.

Terraformers seems to be aiming for a fairly dynamic take on this, where the planet is gradually shaped using a variety of different technologies and methods.

Players can embark on ambitious projects to reshape the climate of Mars, such as building giant mirrors in space to adjust the amount of sunlight that heats the Martian surface, or triggering volcanic eruptions to adjust the atmosphere of the planet.

You can further adjust the planet by beginning to introduce flora and fauna to the environment, starting with simple bacteria, and progressing to full-grown forests complete with wildlife.

The types of creatures that you introduce to the Red Planet will have different effects on their surroundings, allowing players to make decisions such as which environments would be ideal in the vicinity of their cities, and which animals should be kept further away from human habitation.

Being an early access game, there is still more content that we can expect to be added by the developers before its full release. This title does seem to be shaping up to be an interesting niche strategy game, so if you are into this kind of game then it might be worth keeping an eye on this one.
