The existence of Assassin's Creed Mirage was initially revealed in a leak late last month, and then confirmed by Ubisoft a few days later.

Now we have an official cinematic trailer for the game, divulging some new information about the setting, and some hints of what the gameplay may look like.

In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, you are Basim, a cunning street thief with nightmarish visions, seeking answers and justice. After an act of deadly retribution, Basim flees Baghdad and joins an ancient organization – The Hidden Ones. As he learns their mysterious rituals and powerful tenets, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and come to understand a new Creed – one that will change his fate in ways he never could have imagined.

Mirage is set in Baghdad in the ninth century. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Basim was known as Loki, and Mirage appears to be a prequel to Valhalla where the backstory of this character will be explored.

The trailer shows Basim's life before and after joining The Hidden Ones, starting out with his origins as a thief.

While no gameplay has been released yet, it seems from the cinematic trailer that Mirage will be a return to the style of the old Assassin's Creed games, with primarily stealth-focused gameplay and plenty of parkour in a sprawling urban area.

This "return to the roots" of the franchise seems to have gone down well with the fanbase, with plenty of positive comments on Youtube.

Assassin's Creed: Mirage is currently set to be released by Ubisoft at some point in 2023.
